My life here is so NOT happening that I'll start to talk about my bicycle.
The story goes like this..
Last Saturday two new Chinese Malaysians came to this university for research,so when they joined us for lunch on Wednesday I offered to take them to get bicycles from a shop near my house. They being not able to speak any Japanese, was really having a tough time explaining to the shop keeper what they wanted before I arrived at the shop.(they got there by their colleagues car)
So after helping them out,I asked the shopkeeper if he still have any more second-hand bicycles as they took the best two already. He promised me to show me a better one if I come again the next day.True enough, when I visited the shop next day,5 newly arrived used bicycle came.He picked the one with the best conditions for me.
Not only that,he changed the rusty handle bar for me plus the seat to a new one.He even adjusted the height of the seat for me,and when he saw that I had an umbrella with me,he offered to make a loop for me to hold me umbrella.Plus,he pump the air of the of the tires for me and didn't charged any extra for the handle bar, seat etc.And oh,in Japan, you need to register your bicycle so that when it gets stolen you can give your bicycle number to the police where they will help you find.Guess what, the registration usually needs payment and I got it for free..
So there,a short tale of how nice the Japanese can be.And all I did was help two fellow Malaysians translate..
