~Shanghai 23/7~25/7~

I'm back from China, sorry for the late updates.I never knew my 'disapperance' would affect anybody, seems that my friends do care after all.To cut the crap,I shall start with Shanghai.Sorry if the blog is long,I have 'disappeared' after all,for 21days,therefore 21days of story couldn't be short, right?

23rd July 2007

Arrived at Pu Dong airport, hopped on a bus and went to Shanghai City centre.I was amazed by the tall buildings of Shanghai, not to say I haven't seen high rises before, but Shanghai's buliding have very interesting designs.Once we got off the bus,we were hit by the heat wave.China was HOT!!!Our first snack of the day was Soy bean milk and Yau Zha Guai.Boy,do I miss them.We took a pretty long time to find a suitable lodging and after snacking,we went to get tickets for Shanghai Acrobatic.Next we went to some food street nearby, had dinner before watching the show.I was truly blown away!China was always famous for their acrobats. The way the girls were trained since young to perform with great flexibility,to make near to zero-mistakes came to mind when I watched the performers performed.I was awed..They can twist, turn, jump and do the impossible.Too bad pictures were not allowed here, for they were moving non stop.I only manage to get this.I was glad I watched this show, this is what I call Chinese arts. After that we went to a place call The Bund.A place where the night view of Shanghai was most spectacular.I'll let the pictures do the talking. We spent the night at the Youth Hostel there. In my room, there were 3other back packers,2of them snored...Sigh...

*This is the part of Shanghai which I love most..

24th July 2007

Woke up at 6am.Today we had beef noodles for brunch and walked around the Bund. The daylight view of the Bund was also quite nice.
Our first stop for the day is Yu Garden. It is a huge garden with about 30 temples in it.Here I had a small panic moment,my friend was the relaxed and steady type, like to cruise slowly enjoying the view.Me,on the other hand, like to hurry and impatient type, therefore we went our own seperate ways here at the garden. However, this garden has 2exits so I was not sure which side to wait. When I finished my tour,I started to look for my friend. The search took me about half an hour,I was worried like shit. This is the first time I felt so worried, worry that what if I couldn't find my friend,I have no idea how to get back to the Youth Hostel,to go to the next stop etc,and for once,I miss technology=handphone. When I finally found him, I was really relieved. This was just the beginning. The 'hide and seek' game happened often during this trip, not that I mind.We need our own time to view things, our own time to think. It's just that after all these, the need to find each other is really time consuming. And in my case, the worrying thoughts are no help at all..(I am after all a worry-wart,remember?)
We had expensive tea at Hu Xin Ting,a restaurant in the middle of the lake. This is the view from the restaurant.Pretty cool. We then got tickets for Transformers, and went to the other side of Yangtze River, and went to Jin Mao Observatory 88.

Jin Mao Observatory 88,the biggest obesrvation deck in Shanghai.I'm not sure if it's the the 3rd tallest building in the world,I can't remember. The nightview of Shanghai from the deck was amazing.I could just stare at the city for ages..

While queing up for the lift to go down, the queue was super long and super crowded.I noticed that the people there like to cut queue,an aunty kept on pushing me forward with her body.Very uncomfortable...errr,you guys can imagine lar, some aunty with big boobs, keep on pushing me forward...Freaky...I noticed something with the people there, which is they are pretty energetic. The gals at the counter, all dressed up in their neatly ironed uniform, looking ever so sophisticated, was calling out to the line selling souvenirs and cigarettes...Calling?Announcing?Shouting??

Next we went to Nanjing Road,a street like Shinjuku, light up and full with shops for shopping. We went for Transformers movie that night. The movie was great albeit a bit confusing.Went back for a good night rest, the best I had for a week.

25th July 2007

After having mixed rice for brunch,we went for another movie. It's a Hong Kong movie《男儿本色》 starring Nicholas Tse,Shawn Yue and Fang Zu Ming. The show was pretty cool, enjoyed it a lot.Next we visited the memorial for the site of the First National Congress of the Communist Party of China and strolled about at 新天地,a high-class place for foreigners to dine and shop.Went to another food street where we had dinner.Back to the Bund(外滩) and went for the Bund Sightseeing Tunnel and experienced a tunnel full of laser effects, pretty cool. After leaving the tunnel,we again found ourselves sitting at the coastline and starring at the beautiful night view of Shanghai.Truth to be said,no matter how many times I get to see the night view of Shanghai,I would NEVER get sick of it.It's really romantic and beautiful.(Sorry for the lack of quality of these 2 pics)Saw 许留山dessert shop,a place for desserts which is quite famous in Hong Kong,so I suggested we stop by for some dessert while enjoying the view.It was a great ending for my 2nights in Shanghai...

Next will be Su Zhou..Stay tuned..
