On the first day in Ohio,Columbus we were brought to Easton Town for shopping after our one and a half hour flight from Washington D.C.I spent my time drinking Starbucks instead because I was weak with flu and wasn't in the mood for shopping.Next the guide took us around Ohio State University Campus with a bus for the campus was really huge. That night I finally got a room to myself after the several nights of sharing room with Wakebe and Tomoko.(There was 11girls in this trip and only we were the only 3girls who need to share twin beds each night)I was really glad, happy actually because I was given a very huge business suite, all to myself..hehe..
The next day we met with Margaret Dodd, the person in-charge of planning our schedule in OSU.There was no lessons on the first day so she showed us around campus, involving museums,a very cool Science and Technology Library where we got to play with some Microsoft gadgets not in the market yet and had our only Japanese lunch after so many days.Oh my,it was really pure bliss because after days of cheese and meat, udon or sushi was like heaven-sent luxuries..Next we visited the Ohio States Stadium..Yes,OSU's campus was so big that the had a STADIUM in campus...Actually,OSU is more of like a small town in a big town..(Got Museums,Stadium and lots of diners...)That night we had Pizza Party at Tommy's and we interacted with some OSU student's.
On the 3rd day in OSU we spent time on attending lectures. The first Analytical Chemistry was very easy to understand, even for the Japanese from other courses and because the class was small so everyone really concentrated to the lecturer. But classes after that was in huge lecture halls and soon we all resorted to doing Sudoku with only one or two out of the 17of us listening to what was being taught.Lunch was Starbucks muffin with Cafe White Mocha..Imagine having Starbucks in campus, what a bliss..I actually saw one in Tokyo University and was green with envy..More boring lessons after that. That night the girls came in my room for a small girls-only snack party..(note how big my room was??)
On the 23rd we went to Prof.Kasten's Power Laboratory which was really amusing. Not only he melted a needle with high voltage electricity,he also made actual lighting for us to see. That evening we also went to Prof Kasten's house for dinner and we really enjoyed exploring their house and their backyard which was adjacent to a golf course. The decor of the house was all decorated by the hostess,Margaret Kasten herself..This is the decor for Autumn...Cosy huh?
Dinner was really good but I stopped myself from trying the colorful sweet icing cakes.See the amount of artificial colouring used really stopped me from taking a bite..After dinner we went to OSU's Recreational center for a game of badminton and made a new friend named Dexter from PJ,Malaysia..My,what are the odds of meeting a Malaysian in OSU man..Heard that there was about only 15 or maybe 50 Malaysians out of the 5oo thousand students there..Cool huh? That night, had some drinks and ice cream with Rie,Sakuya,Tomoko,Mizutani and Kawano til the wee hours of the morning as we were leaving the next day..
On the 24th..Flew to Detroit from Columbus before taking the 12hours plus plane ride back to Nagoya,Japan..This time..I left with a very heavy heart...The End
